Firstly, to flesh out the world behind the Umbrella Corporation and go deeper into explaining how the outbreak of the T-Virus occurred. The story takes place a day prior to the setting of the first Resident Evil game. We find ourselves chronicling the downfall of the S.T.A.R.S Bravo team as they are sent to investigate reports of murders and missing persons in the ominously named Arklay Mountains. Resident Evil Zero sees you control S.T.A.R.S medic Rebecca Chambers and Marine Corps Lieutenant Billy Coen. Perhaps Capcom should stop being so selfish and remaster Outbreak 1&2 already (please, it has been 18 years).īring this back you cowards. What does this show us? The success of both Zero and the REmake remaster indicates the demand for fixed-camera, tank-controlled games may still exist. It has shipped a staggering (at the time of writing) 3.2 million, more than Resident Evil 4s HD remaster AND original release. What is more of a surprise however is how well the HD remaster did and continues to do in sales. Despite its lukewarm reception, the game did exceedingly well. It was not a surprise that Capcom released a HD remaster of Resident Evil Zero. The game retains a corny charm that the REmake seemed to abandon in favour of a darker, more serious tone. There is plenty to do, fight and kill in this game. That does not mean it should be forgotten. The original release on the GameCube in the same year as the REmake perhaps led to it being overshadowed by its largely superior mainline successor. Others argue it is the most underrated title. Some argue it is the weakest entry in the mainline series. It holds a controversial place in the franchise.

It is one of the few games in the series I can say I have 100% completed, including the achievements.
My opinion of Resident Evil Zero has always been that it a good game sandwiched between greatness and mediocrity. Survival horror has been better, and worse, than this.
